The Unaltered Series Six Months on UK Charts

I'm quite excited to be able to say The Unaltered Series books have maintained their positions on the UK Amazon charts for over six months! All four books have consistently remained ranked under 100 on one or more category's charts. So, here's a HUGE SHOUT-OUT to my UK readers. Thanks for your support.

A Diamond in My Pocket, book one; A Diamond in My Heart, book two; and The Diamond of Freedom, book three, have all reached the #1 position. Book four, The Diamond Bearers' Destiny reached the #3 spot.
The picture shows all four books in the #8, #10, #12, & #14 positions, dated September 4th, 2014. This screen shot is special because book one, A Diamond in My Pocket, is on the same chart as the other four books. Book one is usually free and listed on the Free List. However, for a short time, the Amazon gods switched my listing. They do that from time to time. I was thrilled to have caught a still-shot of the moment.

Also, I'm happy to announce I have my first Diamond Bearer from the UK. A lovely school teacher from England was the winner of my last Diamond Giveaway. Congratulations, Miss Hine!

If you are one of my Diamond Bearers, please send me a picture of your diamond so I can post it on my Diamond Bearers Wall. Cell phone pics work great. You can send it through my Facebook page.

The Unaltered Diamond Series Almost Ready For Print

Even though my Kickstarter campaign didn't reach success, I'm still moving forward with my goal to print The Unaltered Series. At last count, just over 160,000 total downloads of the four books combined have taken place since May 2011 (the majority coming from book one because it's a free book available on Kindle, Nook, iBooks, and many other formats.)

My goal is to print all four books and send sets to school libraries so more teens and preteens can have the opportunity to read my books for free. Not everyone owns a digital device to read ebooks. Some people simply prefer physical books over digital ones. This is one of the biggest reasons I want to provide school libraries with a set of the series at my cost. If you'd like your school library to be added to the list to receive the series, leave a comment below naming the school, city, and state.

Let's put A DIAMOND IN MY POCKET into print!

Hello to my readers and supporters! The long awaited milestone is about to happen . . . getting book one, A DIAMOND IN MY POCKET, put into print.

I'll be launching a Kickstarter.com campaign beginning on (or shortly after), February 18th. Once the campaign launches, I'll post the link on this blog. The goal amount of $6,800 will make it possible to pay for the professional edit, layout expenses, cover art, and printing expenses. I've put together some way-awesome incentive packages to entice you to consider becoming a funder.

For example: At the $35 dollar level, you can get a 2 1/2" crystal Sanguine Diamond replica.

At the $50 dollar level, you can get a diamond replica and a first-edition print copy of A DIAMOND IN MY POCKET.

There will be various levels of funding to choose from, each with some type of swag for you.

I want to give you something to look back upon and be able to say "Wow--I worked with that writer when she was just getting started."

Even though my books have been out for a couple years, the momentum is just beginning to take off. Now that all four of the books are complete, putting them into print, beginning with book one, will make them available to more readers.

I'm sending out great-big-virtual hugs to everyone who has supported me so far. THANK YOU!

The Diamond of Freedom is Released

It's a great time to jump head first into a
unique Fantasy/Paranormal world!

The 1st book is FREE, the 2nd and 3rd books are $3.99 each, 4th (final) book coming soon.

A Diamond in my Pocket Amazon description:
Calli Courtnae, age 16, unexpectedly breaks the 100-meter world record at a high school track meet and is whisked off to Montana to train for Olympic tryouts. Upon arriving, however, she finds something totally unexpected. Her fellow athletes are secretive, mysterious, paranoid, uncommonly beautiful — and endowed with the same gift of superhuman speed that she now exhibits. The truth, Calli learns, is that she has been brought to Montana to join an elite clan of Runners who train to undertake highly secret missions for the benefit of superhuman kids everywhere.

When three Runners from her compound are kidnapped by a clan of evil terrorists who can kill with their thoughts, Calli is assigned to the team that must deliver a rare magic diamond to the terrorists in exchange for the hostages. Calli is just beginning to accept her new world when it is turned upside-down by a mysterious woman who secretly gives Calli the real diamond, while the team leader is given a decoy. Almost immediately the magic diamond in Calli’s pocket unleashes within her a startling range of supernatural powers and mind-reading abilities. Using her new-found powers, Calli exposes traitors among her team, discovers that the hottest-looking guy on the team believes she is his soul-mate, has visions of her companions’ tragic futures, and learns that she alone holds the power to change their futures. While Calli knows that her powers derive from the secret diamond in her pocket, her companions do not, and Calli dreads the fast-approaching day when they will discover the truth.

A Diamond in my Pocket (numbers updated 7/11/2013)
  • Named a Breakout Book by iTunes iBookstore Feb 2013 where it is rated with 4.5 stars / 150 ratings.
  • Barnes&Noble NOOK readers give it 4.5 stars / 485 ratings.
  • Amazon Kindle readers give it 4.5 stars / 46 reviews
  • Goodreads readers give it 3.92 stars / 303 ratings 41 reviews
  • Many readers liken the series to The Hunger Games for its pace and overall feel. Many fans of the Twilight series also like The Unaltered Series.

In Feb 2013, Thomas Hall, Ph.D., a retired Professor of English joined my team as editor. The books now have good flow and proper grammar. (English wasn't my favorite subject in school. Thanks for your help, Dr. Hall!) The major plot points were unaltered, no pun intended.

Take a break from your regular life and jump head first into an exciting world of powers and abilities that will leave you wondering what is really right or wrong, good or bad, black or white --or some concoction of black and white resulting in several varying shades. Where perspective depends on what you've been taught compared to what you allow yourself to see.

A BIG Thank You to my readers for being patient!

No one wants the third book of The Unaltered Series completed more than I do! So what's the problem, you ask? Well, life got in the way.

2012 was filled with many exciting adventures, one of which was moving my family to the Pacific Northwest from Idaho, another was helping another author with his memoir. I'm just barely resurfacing for air, but am working hard on my book now.

One of the setbacks of being a self-published (Indy) author is I don't have an agent or publisher breathing down my neck pressing for deadlines to be met. However, a bigger setback is giving my readers a deadline and then not meeting it. I sure didn't mean to be so inconsistent ... I'll do better!!!

A Diamond in my Pocket is still ranking well on Barnes & Noble with over 360 ratings of 4.5 stars on average. Because it's free, a good percentage who like the book go on to buy the second. Hopefully I won't let my fans down with book #3. I won't release it until I feel it will measure up to your expectations ... well, as much as possible. As soon as this book releases, I will start right in on the final book (#4) and get it out ASAP. I won't be giving estimated release dates anymore ... I've learned all too well that some things are not in my control, dang it.

I will post a release date once my book gets a thumbs up from my editor. Stay tuned for more information, and thank you for reading my books.

Lead Character- Calli Courtnae

I’m Calli Courtnae, sixteen year old average Junior with nothing really special or noteworthy about me, that is, if you don’t count the fact that I can read lips. I had an accident in middle school and lost my hearing for a while, needless to say, I gained a full appreciation for the five senses during that time learning how to lipread. Once my hearing was restored I learned more through the lips of others than I ever thought possible.

My parents are both doctors and I am their only child. I grew up in a home where large words and clinical terms floated across the air which fueled my fascination with the medical field and cemented my own desire of becoming a doctor someday. The only problem living with two extremely intellectual adults is I have little tolerance for idiots, like the athletic jocks at my school. Not all athletes are jocks, but all jocks are jerks, both male and female.

I was rather lack-luster athlete on the school track team. I never won a race in the 100m or even came close until one fateful day when something within me changed and I sprinted first to the finish line breaking the World records. It seemed absolutely impossible that I was the fastest human on the face of the earth, but according to my running time, I was. This event marked a new beginning in my life and I’m still unsure whether it’s a good thing or not.

You see, I was quickly scooped up by a trainer who whisked me away from Ohio to a training facility in the Rocky Mountains of Montana with Olympic dreams flying through my head. Those dreams were squashed almost immediately when I learned a most shocking fact; superhuman abilities and powers exist in the world and I’m just the latest individual to have a superpower surface. Other powers that exist are mind reading, future sight, healing, and super-smell.  These paranormal abilities attract the unwanted attentions of Shadow Demons that seek out people of powers like myself after dark.

Earlier today, I participated in a time trial with other fellow Runners and found I am the slowest of the group; the newbie, a ‘muck’. I’m still unsure what that slang term means but it’s not the worst reference to be called around here... being called a ‘human’ is the ultimate insult. Imagine that.
An even more distressing bit of information has just arisen; because I finished last in the race I will be placed on a delivery team of fifteen individuals that have been assigned to transport a valuable magical diamond to a group of Healers who can kill with their thoughts. When I questioned the logic in this decision I was told that the Runners Clan never sends a team that consists of only the best athletes. What if that team was captured and killed? The clan would lose their top members. Evidently a group representing the three levels of speed from within the clan (fastest, slowest and one average), are always selected for each assignment. When the group leader explained this to me my mind couldn’t get past her choice of words, “captured or killed.”

I was fitted in special clothing for the long distance run in a room with a small group of girls who were unaware I could read their lips and their nasty whisperings from across the room. The other half of the team, the guys, entered the room. The team leader, Chris Harding, settled his eyes on me and my insides withered. I had run into him a couple of times since arriving at the facility and he clearly didn’t like me or my presence here. For some reason he felt that I was a Healer not a Runner, I overheard, or rather read his lips, when he adamantly insisted I was in the wrong place and didn’t belong here. My trainer explained to me when I arrived that no one holds more than one power or ability and she reassured me that the Seers foresaw my Running ability surfacing. Chris was confused, that’s all.

So, here I am, feeling completely inadequate, not the superhuman Runner that I supposedly am, surrounded by the world’s most unpleasant athletes about to embark on a journey that could very well end in my demise.

That’s how my day started.  I hope it will end on a different note; however, as my mother always says, “Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it.”
